Times of San Diego Op-Ed: Regardless of Politics, the Leak of California Gun Owners’ Personal Data Was Wrong
Regardless of your political views or your opinion of the Second Amendment or what you think of gun owners, the recent violation of personal privacy by the California Attorney General should disturb and alarm you.
You may have missed hearing about this because the news media didn’t prioritize its seriousness. Here’s what happened: In June, Rob Bonta‘s office made public a variety of personal information on hundreds of thousands of Californians who hold concealed weapons permits.
In case you missed it -The Data Leak: Update on Public Records Request
Last month, we sent a letter to the Attorney General’s office submitting a request under the California Public Records Act, requesting copies of communications regarding the breach of personal information of CCW holders in California.
The Public Records Act gives the public the right to access communications, documents, and more about almost in anything the government, and it’s our biggest tool other than lawsuits to force them to comply.
Unfortunately, government politicians and bureaucrats do whatever they can to slow-roll or outright deny these requests — particularly when the request seeks information that makes them look bad. As expected – they said no.
“In response to a PRA request, the Department may withhold certain records when the public interest served by not disclosing the records clearly outweighs the public interest,” they wrote.
Your support for Orange Gun Owners is more important than ever, and means more than ever. Your membership allows us to represent gun owners as one voice to the media and to politicians, allowing us to be an effective champion for your Second Amendment rights! Please consider joining today.

Table Top at Relaxin’ with Rifle Supply Cars & Coffee This Sunday September 11th!
Our “Gun Shop Table Top” program is one of our most effective ways to reach out to current and new members. Volunteering is fun and easy! We provide all the materials you need, and all you have to do is show up. You would be passing out literature about the organization, signing up people for our mailing list, and sharing information about membership. This is an incredibly valuable way to give back to the Second Amendment community and support Orange County Gun Owners!
This Sunday September 11th we will be Relaxin’ with rifle Supply at their Cars & Coffee event! Come check out the cars, have some coffee, & help spread the word about OCGO! You can also do a little shopping at Rifle Supply afterwards!

Blog: Defeated! SB 918 and California CCW Revisited – The people of California dodged a bullet due to the greed of anti-2A legislators
SB 918 failed. SB 918 was the response of Governor Newsom and California anti-2A legislators to the US Supreme Court (SCOTUS) decision in the NYSRPA vs Bruen case. SCOTUS confirmed the right of a law-abiding citizen to carry a firearm in public for self-protection was indeed protected by the Second Amendment (2A). SB 918 would have made it impossible for a citizen with a CCW to legally carry a firearm almost anywhere in the state. I first wrote about it here.
Lots of women are buying guns and learning how to use them, becoming the fastest growing group of gun owners over the past several years. Listen to the women leaders in the Second Amendment community! Dakota Adelphia, from a Girl and a Gun, and Audrey Mason from San Diego Off-Road Coalition stop by to talk about their organizations. Heather Hawke, Executive Director of Orange County Gun Owners also joined the show to share progress happening up in Orange County.

The Voter Guide is coming….
The Board will be meeting on Monday September 12th to finalize the Voter Guide, and we will release it soon after! Stay tuned for it’s release!
Once a candidate is endorsed, OCGO will encourage our members to volunteer for and donate to endorsed candidates.
OCGO endorses only county and city level candidates. We do not endorse state or federal candidates because other organizations do a great job already and we do not want to duplicate efforts. We only endorse candidates for City Council, School Board, County Board of Supervisors, Sheriff, and other local boards like water, fire, etc.
OCGO’s Criteria for Endorsements:
The candidate’s stance on the Second Amendment and Second Amendment issues. Does the candidate oppose gun bans, ammunition registration, and accessory bans? Does the candidate support issuing carry permits for the purpose of self-defense? And will the candidate do more than just say they support the Second Amendment? We want to support people who will actively work to protect and restore our Second Amendment rights.
The viability of the candidate’s campaign. By endorsing a candidate, we are asking our members and supporters to donate money and time to their campaign. Our endorsement is not just a voting guide. We will not ask our members to give time and money to a candidate who does not have the proper infrastructure in place to win or has not done enough to raise the money needed to get their message to voters.
The candidate’s character. Even if a candidate is pro-Second Amendment and has a viable campaign, if they have done something that is serious and verifiable to prove they do not have the character to hold public office, we will not endorse. How can we trust a candidate to do the right thing on the Second Amendment if they cannot do the right thing personally or professionally?
Are you a member yet? We need help here in Orange County. It’s election season, and you can bet OCGO is working hard to be your Second Amendment voice. However, we cannot do it alone! Join today by clicking the link above and become a 2A Advocate!
