Courage. Knowledge. Power.

#NotMeOC

The #NotMeOC Movement is OCGO's initiative to stop sexual assault and end domestic violence. The sad reality is that the prevalence of these crimes is increasing. As part of our effort to end this crisis, OCGO is providing assistance for any woman who owns or would like to own a firearm, seeks training, and/or would like to apply for a CCW (Conceal Carry Weapons Permit).

Covid-19

The response to COVID-19 was to shut down the economy and stay-at-home in order to stop the spread of the infection. Suddenly, everything changed. Everyone evaluated just what "personal safety" means. In the month of April 2020, almost 2 million people across the U.S. went to a federally licensed firearms dealer and purchased a firearm for the first time. People understood that their safety was important and possibly at risk. the narrative and statistics no longer mattered. The understanding that a firearm equals protection did matter.

For all new gun owners, we offer help, expertise, and resources. We want you to be successful and understand the decision you made to protect yourself and your loved ones. We are here for you.

OCGO's area of expertise is to provide education, firearms training, and personal assistance in obtaining a California CCW (Permit to carry a firearm) if desired. Our focus is currently on women because women are more commonly the victims, and we are committed to providing resources for education and training to all who are affected by abuse and concerned with her own personal safety.

OCGO believes the epidemic of sexual assault and domestic violence must be ended. There are many other local resource programs available, and we believe adding firearms protection to women's options is critically important. We invite people from other areas of expertise to be part of our #NotMeOC movement and together we will create empowering initiatives for women to not be victims.

NOTMEOC

How will we help?

We're glad you asked! Here's how:

Training

We will provide access to professional training to prepare you to properly and safely handle and store your firearms. Our certified trainers are located across the county and are ready to arm you with the knowledge and skills you need, either in a one-on-one session or classroom environment. If you are unable to pay for this training, a grant may be available.

Firearms Ownership

We will assist you through the process of purchasing a firearm that fits your needs and budget. We will help you find a discounted price from a reputable, licensed dealer that can process the legal paperwork. If you qualify, a grant may be available.

CCW Permit

To carry a firearm outside of your home, you must possess a California CCW permit issued by the Orange County Sheriff. We will be there to guide you through the process and “hands-on” training needed to obtain this permit. If it is financially prohibitive to get this permit, a grant may be available. Get information on how to apply for your CCW here: https://orangecountygunowners.com/ccw/

Why Firearms

Learning to safely use, handle, and understand the workings of firearms gives one the experience & ability to be confident in their skills and empower them to protect themselves & others. They are a useful tool for protection, hunting, and also a challenging sport/hobby as well.

Firearms Background

Coming from OH with hunters in the family, I was around firearms at a young age and taught to handle & respect them. I did witness some instances in my teens where there was a lack of respect for them, which actually pushed me away from firearms for a long time.

However, a date night to the gun range a few years ago gave me a renewed interest & appreciation for them. After that I was committed to becoming a gun owner and learning more about their various uses. Being a mountain biker and trail runner as well, I am often in small groups or solo in remote & urban locations which got me thinking about personal safety and the importance of a CCW.

I quickly realized navigating gun ownership in CA is challenging with the various laws and processes. Being a female, I noticed that there were even less resources for women in the industry and want to help facilitate change. I have become much more involved in the firearms community locally, and also helped female friends gain more knowledge about firearms, becoming gunowners themselves, and applying for their CCWs.

I am continuously learning through training practice through local ranges and  instructors, and encourage others to do so. Practice & proper training builds confidence & skills needed to properly handle & manage firearms.

Why Firearms

Almost anyone can learn how to use one in order to empower themselves to be their own protector.

Firearms Background

I didn't touch my first handgun until I was in my 20s, but as soon as I did, I was hooked! I soon realized there were not a lot of resources for women in the firearms industry, especially in San Diego, so I began working to fix that. I have been an instructor for 7 years now and am certified in NRA basic pistol, basic rifle, basic shotgun, refuse to be a victim, personal protection in the home, chief range safety officer, as well as The Well Armed Woman certified instructor and CCW instructor through the San Diego Sheriff.
